Easy-to-Use MRI at Translational Field Strength

Seminar Overview

Small animal pre-clinical imaging is a vital tool in the field of biomedical research, allowing the study of biological processes and potential diagnostic or therapeutic agents in living animals.

Today, pre-clinical imaging often involves multimodal systems that combine anatomical techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with visualization techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET).

In this webinar, MRI Product Specialist for Bruker BioSpin, Dr. Thomas Basse-Lüsebrink, will discuss Bruker’s BioSpec 3T. Designed for the study of mice and rats, this system, which combines Bruker’s latest MRI technology with carefully designed software applications and multimodal options, is fully compatible with other imaging modalities such as PET.

Also speaking at the webinar, will be Bruker BioSpin’s most senior MRI Application Scientist, Dr. Erich Treiber, who will discuss the special protocols designed for the system and how they will benefit newcomers as well as those who are already experts in MRI imaging.

Dr. Erich Treiber - Senior Application Scientist, Bruker BioSpin - Germany

Dr. Thomas Basse-Lüsebrink - Product Specialist MRI, Bruker BioSpin - Germany

Who should attend?

This webinar will be suitable for anyone with an interest in translational imaging, particularly clinicians, biologists and anyone not especially familiar with MRI, since the provided protocols allow straightforward MRI imaging.

Additionally, as a full grown BioSpec system, the BioSpec 3T is also of interest to MRI experts.

What you will discover?

The webinar will begin with an overview of the BioSpec 3T’s features. Dr. Basse-Lüsebrink will outline the BioSpec 3T and how its versatile design, compact footprint and cryogen-free magnet improve user convenience and flexibility. This applies to researchers across a wide range of pre-clinical application fields, including structural and functional neuroimaging, oncology, stem cell research, ischemia, metabolic research and cardiology.

He will also demonstrate the BioSpec 3T’s brand new, automatic transport system for animal handling, with touch-screen control for bringing an animal into measurement position and how this self-shielded system does not require a quench pipe or Faraday cage.

Dr. Treiber will then describe how the system has over 100 specially-designed, validated, in vivo protocols for mice and rats that may be used by non-experts to start imaging as soon as they have finished basic application training. This is highly advantageous to researchers who do not intend to go deep into the physics and develop their own protocols.

In addition to adapted protocols for this specific field strength, the system offers experts the same sequences that Bruker’s higher field systems include. As well as the extensive set of MRI sequences, a complete RF coil portfolio for rats and mice is available for the BioSpec 3T with optimized coils for head, brain, cardiac, body, x-nuclei and multi-purpose applications.

The available RF coil portfolio includes the unique CryoProbesTM for mice and rats which will boost the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in translational field strength applications. Dr. Treiber will touch on the application of diffusion tensor imaging, which is typically performed at higher fields in pre-clinical MRI and is now feasible at translational field strength with the BioSpec 3T. Furthermore, he will demonstrate high-quality cardiac imaging at translation field.
