Designing Next Generation Nanobots for Food Safety via Phage Engineering

Advances in nanotechnology and synthetic biology, and in particular our new ability to design custom hybrid bio-inorganic nanomaterials, have given us new tools in addressing these grand challenges to the safety and security of our food supply. Until recently, the concept of 'nanobots' has been relegated to science fiction, yet in proof of principle research, we have demonstrated the ability to synthesize a hybrid bio-inorganic system consisting of engineered viruses which have been magnetized using oriented conjugation to magnetic nanoparticles.
